ALL ABOUT “ROOTED PROVISIONS”
“Rooted Provisions” was put on my heart to write nearly two years ago. In 2020 I quit my job and I was at home with a baby. There was a persistent whisper in my heart to “prepare”. There was little clarity in what “prepare” meant until I started down the journey God was leading me on. Months went by and things became more clear, I felt clarity that I needed to fully embrace my role as a homemaker by building up my home, bake bread again, and stock my pantry for the long term.
It wasn’t until about 2022 that I began to understand why I had been led to do this. The investment I made in food storage was not only beneficial to our finances when inflation hit, but it was helping me navigate the difficulty of balancing a business, running a home, and raising babies. The well-stocked pantry helps makes meals easier, consistent, and attainable. The well-stocked pantry was a new idea to me, but it is not a new concept. Stocking the pantry for hard times, winter, or any other unexpected surprises was for many centuries a normal part of life. Watch Little House on the Prairie and you’ll notice shots of their food storage in the sod house. When they perceive hard times ahead, Caroline is quick to remind Charles, “Well, we won’t starve. We have 6 months of food stored.” With food storage, you always have a healthy meal in your home if you know how to utilize the food.
“Rooted Provisions” is for those who want to be more self-sufficient in the kitchen and learn how to nourish their family in a realistic way. It is an heirloom book. The information will not fade with time because it is not a diet or meal plan. It is intended to connect you with the simple principles of nutrition that intersect the science-based principles with the lost traditional practices and common sense.
The book is written so that it takes the overwhelm out of the process of learning how to cook from your pantry at home. “Rooted Provisions” is a 91-page educational book and workbook that moves through 8 chapters that review: how to create balanced meals following my suggested “formula”, how to create a balanced pantry that makes putting together balanced meals easy, mindful eating, realistic meal planning strategies, an intro on food storage, and tips for food procurement. The last chapter gently encourages you to work through a series of “phases” with SMART goals in order to master the large topics.
In between these big topics, you will also learn about flavor profiles for easier from-scratch cooking, learn an introduction to food preservation methods, easy tips on adding variety to your diet, and get strategies for building up your food storage.
The workbook includes thought-provoking questions and space for you to write your own reflections and make this journey truly your own through realistic and manageable steps. This book is intended to help you dig deep into why you want this and guide you through the phases you need to master to achieve your big dreams and goals in the kitchen!
